The Boston Globe: Sports graphics

A collection of graphics – most that ran in the Sunday Sports section.

Oversaw the creation of this stats-driven page from conception to in-game use. Met with editors from the sports, design and graphics departments, created an Illustrator template with possible play scenarios available to the designer and worked during games filling it out under deadline pressure. This chart details the Patriots WR corps for the Brady era. The goal was to visualize the disadvantage the team has this year, with so many young players filling the spots that veterans once held. This goal was accomplished with color, and by connecting the average line to show the trend downward in the 2013 season. This full page graphic was used in early editions of the paper on a night when the Red Sox had an ALCS game that ran late. It details the fortunes of Red Sox players who had been in the playoffs with other teams. I found art of the 13 players and, with some help, silhouetted and arranged them into the hits (the Mr. Octobers) and the misses.A lot to likeLasting impactHistory lessonLeaving so soonThey deserve an AFaint of HartSingular achievementA real dragBlue line specialOverachieversFall guyDouble visionChanges at the topBeginner's luckBringing up the rearWhat's in a name?National demiseExperience countsPardon themGuarding against usageEarning powerNo stopping him nowA lot of ground to coverStuff of champions?Deal breakers
